José M. Alonso is an associate lecturer in the Department of Computer Systems and Computation (DSIC) at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Spain, since 2000. He received B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, from the UPV, in 1997 and 2016, respectively. He was awarded the prize for teaching excellence (2009) and for his Ph.D. degree (2017).
He has been involved in more than 60 regional, national and European research projects, numerous contracts with private companies and distinct educational innovation projects. He has co-authored more than 100 book chapters and papers published in research and outreach journals, and international conference proceedings. He holds 5 patents.
His broad research interests are the application of advanced computing (high-performance computing, grid computing and cloud computing) and artificial intelligence to different engineering and science fields. Other areas of interest include numerical lineal algebra, matrix function computation and their practical use in science and engineering.
